Why Should I Replace Norton 360?

Norton 360 is a fantastic piece of software to protect your computer against the growing number of threats on the Internet today. Nevertheless, Norton increase their annual charge by a huge amount every year, and this year I was shocked to find that Norton had increased its price of the UK version of Norton as if the exchange rate was 1:1, meaning that people in England had to pay 1.65 more than people in America.

As if this price gouging was not enough, the renewal fee, which was once for Virus definition updates, will now disable your software if you fail to renew for another £60, or $100. You can even go and buy a new version online for £30, but lets face it, why should I settle for an hour of hassle just to avoid a rip off company, but continue to feed them business?

It appears that the move to stop users from accessing the software after the protection expires, was brought in without warning, and without any real information being given to the consumer.

With this in mind i decided to seek out free alternatives to Internet security and antivirus options, and I was surprised by how much choice. Nevertheless I came out with a clear winner in each category, completely free, easy to use, and resource friendly (Something which Norton has had some major issues with!)

How to Get Free Internet Protection and Free Antivirus Software.

While I will show you two excellent free Internet security packages, you may be able to get a free Internet security package.

Many banks offer free internet security software when you sign up to their online accounts. This is an easy, free way to protect your computer, with no fuss!

You will usually find a link on your Banks internet homepage once you are logged in, which will provide free anti virus and free firewall protection.

Free Antivirus Software to Replace Norton 360.

i spent a while looking for free anti virus software that could replace Norton 360. When it comes to anti virus software, what I think is most important is its ability to protect my computer against the latest virii which affect computers today. Every time a virus is released it is imperative that the antivirus software is updated immediately to prevent infection.

The best replacement for Norton Anti Virus is in my opinion Avast Anti Virus. Avast Anti Virus is free, easy to use and is regularly updated with virus definition updates. This makes sure that your computer is always protected against the latest viruses.

As with both of the free products I have listed, there are both free and professional versions. While the professional version offers full Internet security, we will show you some more free software which can cover this aspect, the free version will easily cover all your anti virus needs!

Free Internet Security Software to Replace Norton 360

When it comes to Internet security, what you are really talking about is the firewall. The firewall in Norton 360 is pretty good, however it has become more and more complex to use. Outpost Firewall seems to be the best free firewall out there, it might not be quite as secure as some other free firewall programs, but it is incredibly user friendly.

A lot of the free firewalls out there seem to be pretty complex, even for advanced PC users, however Outpost Firewall just needs to be installed to protect your computer from a huge array of Internet threats.

As with Avast antivirus, Outpost does come with a Pro version which includes things such as unsafe website protection, spyware checker and anonymous surfing. Outpost firewall is a great free replacement for Norton 360, its user friendliness is simply the best in teh free software market, especially with it new Auto Learn mode, so you never have to manually set up Outpost Firewall!

Is that all I need to do?

Yes! Those two programs can create a great replacement for Norton 360, and simply installing them will give you all the protection your computer needs.

Even though they are free, Outpost Firewall and Avast Anti Virus provide great protection, which can match that provided by Norton 360. They are easy to use, secure, and will keep your computer virus free for years to come!

Don't worry, buying Norton in the first place is pretty cheap, it is when they try to charge you 3x the price just to renew it that you wil get really *&£$&% off.

Thats when you can come back and install the free stuff!

I'm using Nod 32 right now, tried Panda but it was so efficient I couldn't get online! - used Norton but you are right, they rip you off like insurance companies who discount to new users and charge more to existing renewals.

I'll take a look at Avast Anti Virus.... thanks

"Subscribe Now" is hardly a stealth charge.

When you blithely claim that Outpost Firewall and Avast are 'better' than Norton, perhaps you should provide some quantitative evidence. It's too easy to toss out specious claims. Do a little homework and support your claims.

I can tell you now they are less resource heavy.

The Subscribe now change was a stealth charge which was not included in previous versions of Norton. before this change the subscription update simply removed virus definition updates. now however the software is disabled unless you pay up. The amount you pay is also easily four times what you can find the product for instore as a new purchase, in england the variance is even greater.

this alone makes Norton 360 a bad product since it is trying to rip off customers wo don't think to check stores, and even Nortons own website for new product prices, and instead pay over the odds just for a subscription renewal (Whch does not even include an upgrade to the latest version of the Norton 360 software.
