Despite huge competition from the likes of the high tech Sony PSP, the Nintendo DS has steadfastly remained one of the most fun, and most useful handheld consoles on the market.  There are literally hundreds of Nintendo DS games available to buy on the market today, fortunately we have compiled this list of the best DS games you can buy today! 

While the Nintendo DS has become a little outdated with the release of the DS Lite and the NintendoDSi. Despite this you can always pick up a cheap Nintendo DS and hundreds of cheap DS games for hours of entertainment.

The original Nintendo DS is a great console for children and adults alike, you can get Nintendo DS Games for all ages, but you may find the choice is sometimes a little overwhelming.

You can get the far superior Nintendo DSi which works with DS games, as well as DSi Games. however the Nintendo DSi actually has a shorter battery life than the Nintendo DS, so it might not be quite so good for long trips away from home!

The LEGO DS series hs brought us some of the most fun and prevalent DS Games to have been released since the Nintendo DS was created. From LEGO Indiana Jones, to Lego Star Wars, there have been plenty of LEGO DS Games released. The LEGO Batman DS Game Lets you play as both the Hero and the Villain as you battle through Gotham City.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is the latest addition to the Legend of Zelda series. Normally the Legend of Zelda would have rated much higher than 8 on my top ten.  Unfortunately I find the latest story line in this DS game seems to have been rushed through. 

in Spirit Tracks, Link appears as a railway engineer who wishes that he could be a rich railway tycoon.  Zelda tells link about the Spirit Tracks, which are phantom railroads used to seal the forces of evil away forever.

As the tracks begin to disappear, Zelda and Link investigate.  As per usual, Zelda is kidnapped, or at least part of her is.

Fortunately the actual gameplay of the Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks still retains the classic Zelda formula which makes the game so addictive. There are plenty of puzzles scattered around to interspace the action, of which you will see copious amounts.  The storyline also shows a fair amount of improvement once you have got past the introduction!

I debated with myself for some time as to whether or not Sonic Rush Adventure should be included in my list of the top ten DS games. On the positives, Sonic Rush Adventure is a fantastic DS game, it is easy to get in to, hard to put down and gives great replayability.

The downside of Sonic Rush Adventure is that it is the same old. Sure it works, and maybe changing the age old formula.  SEGA has made some changes though, including pirate battles, allowing you to control your ships with your DS Stylus. 

All in all Sonic Rush Adventure is a well balanced game which really is hugely entertaining.  It's fast paced gameplay, challenging levels, and intense multiplayer games help make this one of the top ten DS games out there.  The Sonic series is well known the world over, and while the formula has not changed, all in all I think that is a good move.

I was actually introduced to Rhythm Heaven DS by a fellow hubber (Cosette) when i was writing about the Best DSi Games, and I am very thankful for it.  Rhythm Heaven for the Nintendo DS is a hugely addictive game, which is also very easy to pick up and play, but very hard to put down.  With Rhythm heaven you have to learn only a few basic stylus moves, and then you are thrown in to a diverse, wacky, and above all random world.  each level combines both audio and visual markers, which you must combine to get the best possible score.

There are plenty of unlockables and mini games in this brilliant DS game Rhythm Heaven which keep things entertaining.  it is also helped by some of the rather psychedelic animations which you have to follow to finish your goals.

While Rhythm Heaven is one of the best DS Games I have played, it sometimes lacks the indepth playability which makes some DS games so great.  Nevertheless, Rhythm Heaven DS does have a huge amount of entertainment value. Rhythm Heaven is easy to pick up and play, however mastering this game requires a huge amount of skill which will take you a fair amount of time to pick up.

Pokemons has been around for a long time, so long in fact it was a Game Boy game initially, but has made it's way to the Nintendo DS.  Of all the DS Games that have been around since the begining, the Pokémon series is one of the greatest.  This would have been even higher in my best DS games list, if it was not for the fact that very little seems to have improved in the last decade.

Nevertheless, the creative creatures, intriguing story, and the new multiplayer options, all make for a great game, and hours upon hours of entertainment.  Pokemon Platinum is a fantastic Nintendo DS game, for young and old players, it's addictive, fun, and the levelling system has been perfected.  The new online multiplayer option really has put the icing on the cake by providing infinate battles!

While I hate the cliché, fun for all the family, it very accurately describes Mario Kart DS.  Mario Kart is one of the best DS games for wireless multiplayer, be it between two siblings, or eight friends.  The Mario Kart DS version of the game also allows you to play against people online with your friends. 

As with all the Mario Kart games, Mario Kart DS has immense playability, with fun characters, fun weapons, and some brilliant tracks (I had to stop myself from using the world 'Zany' here). Mario Kart DS really is a great game, with some brilliant pluses, and surprisingly few negatives.

While most games have mixed opinions on their value, Mario Kart DS has an overwhelming consensus.  The word fun is uttered by anyone trying to describe this game, and it really is very fun.  Of all the DS games out there, Mario Kart DS really does have some of the greatest entertainment value in the market.

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution brings one of the most successful strategy games of all time to the Nintendo DS. Civilization is one of the best turn based strategy games available, and its DS version makes no exception to the brilliant series of games.

On Civilization DS you can play the best DS strategy game anywhere in the world. And with plenty of levels and multiplayer options you will never get bored.

Mobile civilization games have never appealed to me before, however the DS Stylus replaces the mouse incredibly well, leaving you with fast, intuative gameplay.  Mix these characteristics with the well renowned addictive Civilizations gameplay, and Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution really is one of the most addictive, well made DS games ever made.

The return of the Super Mario Bros in this brilliant DS Game is no exception to the fantastic Mario Series. Despite using the same classic 2D style as the previous Mario Games, the New Super Mario Bros DS continues the same style, whiel introducing some new aspects to keep players entertained.

As you follow Mario through the new maps, by yourself or in multiplayer mode, you will see some new functions which help keep things fresh. While it really is an old style Mario game, it does have new graphics as well as new maps to give the fans something new.

On the downside, since nothing has changed in the basics of the game, some might find the game a little bit stale, especially if they grew tired of the originals, nevertheless, the New Super Mario Brothers really is one of the best DS games ever!

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is the sequel to the Mario and Sonic at the Winter Games.  With a huge variety of events, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games will never get boring.  This includes 'Dream events' which are non realistic Winter Olympic Games, that are immensely entertaining.

You can play as any of your favorite characters from the classic Nintendo and Sega games, as you battle for the Mario and at the Olympic Winter Games title! The competition between the Mario and Sonic teams is tense, and a well built story line helps build the competitive atmosphere.
